If I remember correctly, Marlo is married to Phil Donahue. I am watching his program as I write this and I am stunned to find out his views on Jesus. I always thought more of Marlo and her father, Danny. I pray that she does not share her husband's views!!

I would like to thank you for the hard work and thoughtfulness you have shown to all women and children in this world. You have been a ray of sunshine to so many people.
I was not a sick child like the children you share your life with at St. Jude. I was not a child who overcame violence or neglect. In fact, I am a happy, loving, independent woman from a divorced family. Thanks to your book Free to Be a Family I never felt ashamed of the stigma attached to children of divorce. I held my head up with pride because I knew I was special.
When my mom remarried she was so conscious of my well-being. She wanted me to feel a sense of belonging in my new family. In 1987 she purchased your book and corresponding cassette for me. I must have read that book and listened to that tape a million times. As I got older it seemed to take on new meaning, as if to fit the needs/feelings I was experiencing at that time. When I turned 13 and was struggling to find my place in my somewhat complicated life, I could always count on your message. Believe it or not when I turned 16, and got my license, I would listen to the tape in my car. It made me feel so worthy of friendship and love. What an amazing gift you have given me.
Until I got married and recently had my son I was unable to fathom what this book has represented to me. While I was pregnant I listened to the cassette in my car to/from work so that my son could hear it while he was in my tummy. I wanted him to experience the love I had felt so many times in my life.
I recently purchased the Free to Be You and Me book and CD for a dear friend of mine to share with her daughter. It was at this time that I discovered my Free to Be a Family cassette was missing. After the birth of my son, and the chaos that comes with your first child, I lost it. Marlo, I am so brokenhearted about this. All my life I have wanted to share this with my husband and children. I cannot believe this opportunity has been taken from me.
I have searched everywhere for a copy of this cassette. Book stores, libraries, E-Bay, internet shops, etc. Unfortunately, as you know, the tape and book are out of print. It was during this search that I discovered your fan club. I do not know if this cite is legitimate. In fact, I have debated on whether I wanted to share this with the whole world. But, for my son, it is worth it.
If there is any possible way that you could point me in the direction of purchasing another one of these cassettes it would mean more than words can say. Please contact me at jenjeanthebean@yahoo.com with information you can share. Thank you. God bless.

I am watching the interview with your husband, Phil Donahue and Jerry Falwell. Your husband is very obnoxious !!!! He forgets your father prayed to the Lord and the Lord answered his prayers and that is how St. Jude Hospital was formed. I am a monthly contributor to St. Judes but after watching your husband I am cancelling my pledge. Your husband needs to listen more to his guests. Maybe he would learn something instead of giving his opinion which he feel he is always right.

Dear Marlo, I would like to give my mom a unique Christmas gift, and I need your help. My mom sang with your father on WXYZ radio in Detroit, Michigan on what I believe was called the "Happy Hour Club". She was born in 1918, and I believe that she was about 17 years old at the time, which would have been around 1935. Her name was Dorothy Lipinski, but she may have gone by the nickname of "Dottie". I don't know if they kept recordings of live radio broadcasts back then, but I thought giving her a rememberance of her past would make a great gift. She never went on to pursue a singing career; she married my dad when she was about 19 years old (dad passed away in 1998). Mom still sings along to the old songs on the radio, and I grew up with the songs of the 30's and 40's - sang to me by my mom - implanted in my brain. ("Good Night, Irene"was my lullaby song; non of that "Rock-a-bye Baby" stuff. I refused to fall asleep to any other song; and - by the way - my name is Kathleen! ) WXYZ radio no longer exists, and I have called the television station as well as scoured the internet, but I've been unable to come up with anything concrete. Any suggestions on how to pursue this would be greatly appreciated. My mom is now 84 years young and has raised five children who adore her. She has been there for all of us through the good and the bad times - especially for me and my children. My father left her well provided for; and coming up with Christmas gifts for my mom has always been difficult - between children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren there are about 45 of us - so you can see how gift-giving can be a challenge! I appreciate you taking the time to read this and any help that you can offer. I wish you and your family continued love and happiness - the two greatest gifts any family can have. Sincerely, Kathy Gallo kdavis15@comcast.net

I was 12 years old when I started watching 'That Girl'. I loved the show. I never missed one episode. Thank you Marlo Thomas for the inspiration. I was raised in a small town where girls were suppose to stay home, no college and raise kids. I married the love of my life 27 years ago, have two beautiful daughters, one handsome son in law and two beautiful grandchildren. I've owned two businesses, the present one 12 years and I attribute the role model 'That Girl' showing me at an early age 'yes' girls can have it all. Thank you again. DKW

Hi, My name is Laurie Waldman and I live in Toronto, Ontario. This message comes from frustration and has literally nothing to do with this web site. We as a family listen to Free To Be You and Me in the car all the time. My five year old daughter loves it and I love that she loves it. My 21 month old son doesn't quite get it yet, but will, I am sure soon enough. I have searched for the video. I remember watching it when it was only available as a movie when I was a kid - I have such fond memories of it and now, when we listen in the car and my daughter sings along, I actually get tears in my eyes. Her singing along really shows me that one day she really will be a woman. Oh, sometimes I would just like to keep her 5 years old. Anyway, I have searched and searched for the video and it seems almost impossible to get my hands on one. Can you please help me find one. I think you have done a wonderful thing here and the album/book/film stands the test of time, and it is still very important for girls and boys to hear these songs today. So if you could help me I would really appreciate it. My e-mail address is waldman@interlog.com I thank you in advance for your assistance. And in the mean time, I will continue to look for the video. I think it is important. Thank you for it. Regards, Laurie Waldman
